About the Island

Due to its favourable geographical location and the Mediterranean climate, Brač is ideal for both the summer and the winter tourism. Guests who visit Brač enjoy its Mediterranean atmosphere, olive groves and vineyards, rich cultural heritage, sporting events, crystal clear sea, clean air and sun.
Vidova gora, the highest peak of the Adriatic (778m), is one of the numerous sights of the island of Brač. Its name originated from the Old Slavic god Svevid. Around the 13th century, the church of St. Vida was built at the top of the mountain. Unfortunately, today only ruins of that church exist. From the top of Vidova gora you have a unique view of the south, which besides the well-known Zlatni Rat beach, encompasses also other Adriatic islands. During clear skies the view expands as far as the Pelješac peninsula in the east, over Korčula, Vis, Biševo, all the way to the distant cliffs of Jabuka. Some days you can even see the Italian coast.
Green, wine-growing Bol plain is situated below Vidova gora with its widely known gravel beach Zlatni Rat, which rotates its cape eastward or westward, depending on the wind influence at a specific time of the year and precisely that makes this beach truly unique. Dominican convent was built in the 15th century (after the menace of the Omiš pirates ceased) in the east of Bol. There is a botanical garden within the convent, as well as the museum of the archaeological findings of the island.
In the mid 16th century, fleeing from the Turks, Glagolitic priests from Poljica inhabited the west slopes of Vidova gora, in the Blaca desert, where they built the exceptionally valuable convent, which was turned into a museum in 1963. You will be astonished by the beauty of this desert pearl as its interior will certainly draw your attention. A world-known observatory is situated within the convent. Numerous antique objects and an extremely well-stocked library, with many manuscripts, found their home precisely in this peace oasis. Due to its secluded location, you cannot reach the convent by car, but you are in for a pleasant walk through the intact nature of Brac. Besides the already mentioned sights, you can also visit Zmajeva Spilja (Dragon Cave) whose origin is rather unknown. Relieves of pagan mythology and Christianity figures were carved in the solid stone. Picturesque and sun-drenched walk through nature is leading you to Zmajeva spilja, which is interwoven with secrecy. In the oldest place on the island, Skrip, another museum with a rich collection from the Antiquity and the early Middle Ages is located.
Have you ever wondered where exactly did all that stone used to build the White House and the Diocletian's Palace in Split come from? It came precisely from Brač. On Brač, the island of the stone, the stone-carving tradition dates back to the Roman period and has been passed on from generation to generation, to the extent that the one-of-a-kind stone-carving school was founded in Pučišće. In addition to numerous cultural and historic sights, Brač offers sporting activities such as windsurfing, kite surfing, cycling, hiking, shooting, diving and many other adventure sports. The island's social life also abounds in nightlife facilities, such as night clubs, bars, discos, restaurants.
